PSIMET Custom Cyclocross Wheels

Chicago has been Cyclocross crazy for years. PSIMET has learned a thing or two about what it takes to build cross wheels that will perform.

Waiting 4-8 weeks for a full custom build is usually manageable during the road season, but when it comes time for cross – and tubular gluing – that could mean almost your whole season.

PSIMET has decided to offer ready to roll wheels for the 2011 Cyclocross season

These wheels are still hand built using the same name brand quality components normally used by PSIMET (have you noticed we don’t private label anything? That’s because we know you’re smart enough to understand that there is no factory out there with "PSIMET" on the front of it.  Many of the other guys just don't seem to think you're smart enough to figure that out). These have all been built here in house using exactly the same build techniques as all of the wheels we sell. What’s different? You don’t have to wait.

If they are in stock in the store that means they are in boxes ready to ship.

The specifications are ones that have proven to perform for the vast majority of racers we have watched race. Fundamental PSIMET philosophy is that these won’t work for everyone. We know that and accept that. Ready to Roll Cyclocross Wheels - Common Features:

• Tubular - All of the wheels in the PSIMET Cyclocross Line are tubular. If you have been around cross you KNOW that tubular is where it’s at.
• Rims – 2 choices: Aluminum or Carbon. 
  • The Aluminum is the industry’s BEST Cyclocross specific rim ever made, Velocity’s Major Tom.
  • The Carbon is PSIMET’s imported 50mm tubular rims that have proven over 3 seasons that they know how to perform for Cyclocross.
• Hubs
  • White Industries – These are PSIMET’s premiere choice for cross applications. Features like simple dis-assembly, replaceable cartridge bearings, Titanium freehub body, and Shimano/Campy inter-compatibility within the same shell make this US Based company’s Hub the choice for cross. 
  • Import – Bitex. Bitex is a long running producer of quality hubs from Taiwan. They use ABI/Enduro bearings and frankly offer great inexpensive and light hubs for applications just like this.
• Spokes: DT Competition. Why? They work. They are the benchmark for quality spokes and have been for decades. Period.  Notice we use Competition?  These are double butted spokes.  They are the perfect mix of lightweight, durability and strength.  Why don't the other guys use them?  Because they cost more.  At PSIMET, I'd rather just build you a better wheel.
• Nipples: DT Brass nipples.  External too.  Why?  Who in their right mind would put internal nipples on a cross tubular wheel? Why that would almost be as silly using alloy nipples.

Customizing:

Still want to march to the beat of a different drummer? No problem. Not only do we still do Full Custom Cyclocross wheels, but we can add some common modifications to wheels from the ready to roll program.

• Bearing Upgrades – want ceramic or even ABEC5 steel bearings? Inquire about a bearing upgrade. Use the quote request form.
• Custom Decals – Want a different color standard decal? No problem. Select from a range of colors available. Want something truly custom? We can work with you to take your own art and put it on a wheel, or work to help design it ourselves. Use the quote request form.
• Spoke Colors – We now offer in house powder-coating of spokes. If you just have to have your own color to match your bike or kit then by all means let us know what you’re looking for and we will see what we can set you up with. Use the quote request form.

The upgrades listed above are not the only upgrades available but represent the most popular. All upgrades will affect total cost and delivery time.

Here at PSIMET we didn't read a book about cyclocross.  We didn't watch a show about it.  We didn't sit and research what others "think" is something people should do when racing cyclocross.
